In 2008, the Bartram Gallery had a photography competition that brought in hundreds of entries from a number of countries. Zeb Andrews was the winner of the competition and in addition to the $500 cash prize for his winning image, he became the latest artist to be represented by the Bartram Gallery.
“What a perfect addition to this already amazing collection,” states Gallery Director and fellow artist Scott Reither. “Zeb’s work is not just unique, it is so much fun to look at! Many of his images have a youthfulness to them and he consistently sees and captures his subject in a pure and fresh way. I quickly became a fan of Zeb’s work and will no doubt begin to collect some of his work for my personal collection.”
Some History on Zeb Andrews
Zeb Andrews has lived his entire life in the Pacific Northwest, it is therefore of little surprise that he became interested in photographing its many natural splendors. Bitten by the photography bug a little over six years ago while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, he has combined his love for the outdoors with his passion for photography.

In the pursuit of his photography, Zeb is always mindful that even familiar locations can hold fascinatingly new perspectives. He often travels with a small assortment of cameras to help him photograph places in creative and new ways, be it with a plastic Holga, a wooden pinhole or his Pentax 6×7 loaded with Ortho or Infrared film. He enjoys the challenge of constantly shooting outside the box of what is expected of contemporary photography.
Zeb spends the majority of his week immersed in photography, working in a small camera store in Portland, Oregon. He has gained much of his inspiration from the photographers and photography he sees circulate through on a daily basis, and in turn enjoys passing as much of that along with his own photography as he can.

“Although it was Zeb’s pinhole photographs and his fantastically moody and extensive series of images of the St. John’s Bridge in Portland, Oregon that initially sparked my attention,” says Reither, “it was viewing the series of floralscapes that Zeb has produced that really made me realize what amazing diversity that this emerging star in the photographic field has. This series of close-up florals is simply beautiful to the eye.”
